Everyone knows it, everyone has it, everyone uses it: glass. Whether in the form of a drinking glass, window glass, or eyeglass lens – glass is versatile. We too have been convinced by the properties of the material. At the same time, however, there are also doubts about this multifaceted material. In this article, we would like to once and for all clear up the three biggest misconceptions about glass drinking straws.
Of course, glass is not unbreakable. Especially if you clumsily drop it on a stone floor, it will not miraculously remain intact. Nevertheless:
Glass is not just glass
.
We want to offer you the best drinking experience and have therefore spared no expense or effort in using the highest quality glass. Currently, many glass manufacturers choose borosilicate glass, which, due to the many different chemicals it contains and a melting point above 1000 degrees, is not recyclable. Ultimately, this glass ends up in the landfill and is therefore 0% sustainable and even harmful to the environment.
That’s why we have consciously decided against it and focused on sustainability and durability in the production process. The glass used by HALM is 100% recyclable.
After the careful selection of the material, the next production step ensures that both ends are fused together particularly smoothly after being cut. Caution! A pleasantly smooth mouthfeel is guaranteed. HALM achieves its final stability mainly through a special process in which it is 'relaxed' several times in an oven using solar energy. This means that HALM loses its tension and is therefore homogeneous throughout. This very step prevents glass splinters from detaching from the HALM.
It is the reason why HALM does not shatter into a hundred tiny pieces as soon as it hits the ground. Instead, it happily bounces back up into the air, preventing anything bad from happening. In a long-throw competition with wine, champagne, or drinking glasses, HALM will always be on the winner's podium for these reasons.
So the next time you use HALM, you definitely don't need to treat it like porcelain. HALM is durable, robust, and hard-wearing.
At the
Cleaning of HALM
You can use the drinking glass as a model. HALM is also easiest to clean in the dishwasher. When placed upright in the cutlery basket, a minimum temperature of 56 degrees and between 10-15 liters ensure that HALM is thoroughly rinsed from top to bottom despite its small opening.
This makes our product HACCP-compliant, which means that legal requirements in the food sector are met.
Exact information about the topic HACCP is detailed in the article"Everything you need to know about the HACCP concept", (Vorest AG)described.
A particular advantage of HALM is that the material's inherent transparency immediately reveals whether all impurities have been removed or not. Especially in Hospitality, this means that customers know exactly what to expect when using HALM. In contrast to non-transparent alternatives, you have full visibility and don't need to worry about unpleasant surprises.
In case a dishwasher is not available, HALM can be easily cleaned with our plastic-free natural brush. Even stubborn residues can be removed with it. For regions with very hard water, we recommend occasionally boiling HALM with organic descaler (HALM can withstand temperatures of up to 400 degrees). Afterwards, HALM will be sparkling clean again.
For everyday household use, it is perfectly sufficient to rinse HALM with clear water.
The same principle applies here:
Glass is not just glass
. Of course, it is especially important to ensure that no glass splinters break off while drinking, which you might accidentally ingest. To prevent this situation, HALM was designed with a curve at both ends to ensure that
no small glass particles detach
Even if your tooth touches the glass or you use HALM as a stirrer and glass meets glass, it is impossible for small glass splinters to break off. If HALM breaks, it does so in such an obvious way that you would no longer want to drink from it.
Further concerns arise regarding the topic of children. Rightly so, it must be said that children are very inventive and could come up with a variety of ways to use the HALM. However, one thing is certain: just like with a drinking glass, you don't feel the urge to bite on the HALM. On the contrary – the ends of the HALM are mouthwatering and very pleasant to drink from, making it more likely to encourage drinking more. We therefore recommend HALM for children from 3 years of age.
Children should not be allowed to chew on plastic straws anyway.
The harmful BPA can leach from the plastic and enter the body. In addition to cancer and diabetes, recent studies have shown that BPA even causes chalky teeth. Therefore, glass is by far the safer alternative for children.
If HALM does break, it should be noted: HALM is made of soft glass. This means that the edges are not sharp and jagged as you might expect from regular broken glass. The separated pieces are rather smooth, making it almost impossible to injure yourself on them.

We hope that we have been able to clear up all doubts and that sustainable sipping is now even more enjoyable!
